When we look back on the past, we can see how many of the players we have followed have really turned out differently from what we would have thought. Some of these players have been projected to be great talents who would impact the league, while others were considered to be no ones. The NBA brings a lot of surprises because so little is known about how good a player really is when he enters. Scouts can go to games; they can meet and have workouts but never really learn about the player of interest. How can you tell whether the player will turn out to be a good scorer when there is no comparison to be made? They can be good players even amongst their own peers but there is a huge difference in talent from college to the NBA. Other factors can influence how well someone turns out is the changes they undergo when they finally do make the NBA. Do they lose their lust for superstardom or do they relax and fall to the pressures of the world? This is not an easy question to answer.

A player who has not turned out to be good as some would have guessed is Kwame Brown. He was the top overall pick of the draft and was talked about as a good big man. He was also the first number one overall pick from high school. However, even in the eyes of Michael Jordan, the best guard in NBA history was wrong. This only shows that no one can tell if someone has the complete game to be good. Other players include Gilbert Arenas, who was not considered to be a star but turned out to be one because of the will he had. Everyone is different and many factors come to play. Some are on teams that have problems, some are in the perfect situation possible and some has outside interference. Some of these interferences include injury, troubles with the law, family and much more.

The game of basketball is important to some but is not the most important thing. We cannot expect these players to do everything in their power to be better when we know that is not possible. What happens is what happens and is only seen then. We can only make predictions as to who is good for the team, from what we know and what we are seeing at the moment. No ones future is in place because disaster can strike. These players should not take it upon themselves to perform at a certain level but should only focus on doing what they can.

An avid NBA fan
