The easiest way to get your kids out the door is to turn off any device that plugs into your kids brain. Therefore, the number 1 way to get our kids to exercise is:

1. Turn off the TV, the computer and the X- Box.

Over the past two decades, the percentage of overweight children has doubled and sedentary behaviors such as watching television and playing video games have become a part of everyday life. (Family Community Health 2002; 25:10.) To make matters worse, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that a significant portion of childrens daily caloric intake is consumed while watching television. I can guarantee you that the majority of calories consumed during unsupervised television viewing come from pure junk food.

2. Set a Good Example:

Instead of sending your kids outside to play go with them! Set a good example. Initiate family bike rides or walks in the park as often as schedules will allow. The best opportunity to get your family to exercise is right after dinner! Try it and you will all have fun!

3. Little Kids Need Exercise Too:

According to the National Association for sport and physical activity, simple but targeted activities are recommended for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Each day, toddlers should have at least 30 minutes of structured physical activity and pre-schoolers should have at least an hour. Examples for toddlers include follow-along songs or chasing a ball; and for older children, balancing games or tumbling. (Child Health Alert2002:2) Exercise should be a routine part of daily life and parents should join in, not just sit on the sidelines and watch their children romp.

4. Get Your Kids Involved in Sports:

One of the best things my dad ever did for me was to sign me up for football. It is amazing to me that by the age of 10, I had already decided that I was too small and not good enough to play football. Dad thought otherwise and he was right. I just loved to play that game and I played until I was 18 years old. Being involved in sports is a great way for your children to get in shape, build confidence, make new friends and have fun. I recently had the privilege of getting a gleeful phone call from my girlfriends 11 year old son, Taylor. He was so excited and happy to hear that he had been chosen to be on our districts rep soccer team. Becoming involved in your kids activities has just as many benefits for the parents! The key is to encourage but not force your childs participation in sports. Try exposing them to a number of different sports and activities and then allow them to choose the one that interests them the most.

5. Girls Should Play as Much as Boys:

By the age of six, girls already exercise less than boys. There is absolutely no physiological reason for this to happen according to Neil Armstrong of the Childrens Health and Exercise Research Center at the University of Exeter, Great Britain. He feels parents should encourage girls to enjoy the same level of physical activity and sports as the boys. If we are truly living in an age of equality and equal opportunity, lets start with the children. It is important not to distinguish between girl games and boy games especially when it comes to exercise. Girls should be allowed and encouraged to learn how to throw a baseball, play hockey and perform traditional male household duties such as washing the car and cleaning out the garage.

6. The Family that Plays Together Stays Together:

Many of my most cherished moments in life have been physical activities involving the whole family. I am not talking about the big competitive sports match either. My mom, dad, sister and I still laugh hysterically when we talk about the Smith family dart game at Uncle Dicks cabana. I feel that many strong and enduring emotional bonds come through the joy of playing together as a family. I have had many great teachers throughout my life including those much older and much younger than me. When I was in elementary school I was in tears one night because I could not do a simple forward somersault that they taught us in school. Let me tell you that my dad changed my world of crying and tears into laughter and joy by teaching me how to do a somersault in five minutes. Another special moment for me was watching Taylor sink his first ball in the basketball hoop at age eight. He must have taken a hundred shots before he finally got it in the hoop.

I sincerely believe that the family that plays together stays together!

Tony Parker missed his chance to play for his country this summer, a broken finger kept him out of the world championships in August, but he wouldnt miss the chance to play for the home fans in two cities. Now the San Antonio Spurs guard is getting a chance to play in his homeland.

The Spurs is one of the four NBA teams that are in France, spending a portion of its preseason overseas as part of the NBA Europe Live tour. The Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns joined the Spurs in Europe to get an earlier start even if this meant they would do it really far from home. The rest of the NBA just opened up training camps at home. The 76ers are in Barcelona, the Clippers in Moscow and the Suns in Treviso, Italy, and Rome.

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns will later head to Cologne, Germany, for the most important event of the whole trip, a two-day tournament that also includes CSKA Moscow and Maccabi Tel Aviv, the top two finishers in the Euroleague last year. The last event is heavily pushed by the NBA, they are calling it its "most ambitious international initiative," because it comes with a number of marketing and promotional activities.

I think we can all conclude that this is a Public Relations trip more than a preseason preparation, since basketball has become such a global game. What brings the more challenge to the players might be the fact that it is something like 13 time zones. They will be jet lagged and they will be going to be playing two pretty tough teams. But at the end the NBA has high hopes that the teams will accomplish what they want to accomplish, and in the process they might want to take advantage of the trip for the players to get a little culture as well.

The regular season is over for the NBA and that means the votes for MVP are already in. The race for MVP this year has definitely been a close one. With names like Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett, and LeBron James all floating around, it is hard to tell who will pull it out. In my opinion, it looks like the race will come down to the Western Conference superstars Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant has been a key player in the NBA for many years and is yet to claim his MVP award. I hope that this year he will continue his streak. The reason that I don't want Kobe to win is because, even though he is a valuable player, he is somewhat of a cry-baby. A couple of years ago, Kobe ran Shaq out of Los Angeles because he wanted to be the superstar. Then earlier this year, he had basically given up on the Lakers and was at the point of demanding a trade because there was no one else good on the team. That is until Pau Gasol made his way over to Los Angeles and Kobe decided that he could give the Lakers another shot.

This is not the attitude that an MVP should have. A MVP doesn't give up and look for a way out so that he can have it better. The MVP plays hard no matter what and makes a difference on any team. That is why my vote goes for Chris Paul.

The Hornet's by far do not have the best team in the league. However, the young point guard Chris Paul is able to drive the team even though he has only a few years of NBA experience. He is a master of the point guard position. He is quick, smart, and improves the overall quality of his teammates. He is an amazing offensive player. He pulls double coverage to him and is still able to get anywhere on the court that he wants. He averages 21.1 points per game and 11.6 assists. He is also a great defender. He is quick so he can get in and make some steals. He also has amazing style as he covers the post. He plays like a MVP and has the attitude of the MVP.

That is the difference between Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul. Kobe doesn't like it when he doesn't get his way, even though he not sure what his way is. Whereas, Chris Paul makes it his way. Chris Paul all the way for MVP!

Womens college basketball coaches rely on recruiting or scouting reports as another tool to find girls to recruit. These reports are developed either by an individual or an organization. So if college coaches use this report to find players, how do you get your name on a report?

There are local, regional and national recruiting reports available to coaches. Some of the reports include:

Blue Star Report

For over 25 years Blue Star has been one of the most influential organizations in selecting and advising such publications rankings and listings as found in The Sporting News, USA Today, Gatorade Circle of Champions, and McDonalds All American Team just to name a few. These rankings and evaluations are part of our national Blue Star Report available to media & colleges across the country.

All-Star Girls Report

The All-Star Girls Report (ASGR) will look at the nation's top players in each class that impact 500 collegiate programs on a yearly basis. The top prospects in each region of the country will be identified after extensive, year round scouting and featured in the ASGR rankings.

Collegiate Girls Basketball Report

The Collegiate Girls Basketball Report rates nearly 1,500 players in each class as well as 1,000 junior college prospects. Prospects in each region of the country are identified after extensive, year-round scouting, including quiet and dead period events!

Southeastern Hoops Report

The Southeastern Hoops Report is the southeast's fastest growing grassroots scouting and recruiting source for girls basketball. The Southeastern Hoops Report features write-ups on the best and most talented prospects attending Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee high schools have to offer.

There is one simple way to get listed on a girls basketball recruiting report and that is to play at an event that is either hosted by or attended by the recruiting individual or organization.
