The Lakers had their way in the NBA Playoffs' first-round by dispatching an overmatched Nuggets, 4-0. Their NBA West Semi-Final competition will be heavier, in the form of the Utah Jazz, who finished off the Houston Rockets in 6 games.

The Lakers have home-court advantage, but only claim three more wins during the regular-season over the Jazz. The Utah Jazz are, as always, a crafty and tough squad, led by Head Coach Jerry Sloan. Sloan always has his teams prepared, and he and the Jazz normally fly under the radar. This season is no different.

The Jazz will have to stop Kobe Bryant during key times of the series, easier said than done. The probable NBA MVP will get his, but it is up to the Jazz' defense to stop the monster games that Bryant is capable of. Kobe averaged 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists in the Nuggets series. Defending Kobe Bryant is a team assignment, but Andrei Kirilenko could shoulder the load, and could be effective being long and lanky, able to get into Kobe Bryant's comfort zone.

The Jazz' offense rides with the pick and roll, Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer the force behind it, much like Karl Malone and John Stockton back in the day. The Jazz have been great at home during the regular-season, at 37-4 in their home State.

The Lakers are on a roll, however. Bursting through to the #1-seed at the end of the regular-season, plus scorching the Nuggets, enabling the Lakers to get some rest. The Jazz will be formidable, but the Lakers have a little too much firepower with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom. Lakers in 7 hard fought games to advance to the NBA Western Conference Finals.
